Phakic Intraocular Lens

Refractive errors such as hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism may be too high to be corrected with LASIK treatment. Corneal thickness may not be sufficient for LASIK treatment. In these cases, phakic intraocular lens therapy is an alternative method that can be preferred.

Myopia is the inability to see far. Hypermetropia is the inability to see near clearly. Astigmatism, on the other hand, is distorted and broken vision due to the falling of the light coming into the eye to more than one point on the retina. Astigmatism may be due to the cornea or the natural lens inside the eye. The phakic lens is placed in front of or behind the iris, the colored part of the eye.

Am I Eligible for a Phakic Intraocular Lens?

It can be understood by a detailed eye examination whether this treatment can be applied in people over the age of 21 and who have not found any change in refractive error in the last 1 year. In the examination, especially the cornea and anterior chamber depth of the eye are evaluated.

If there is no situation that may prevent the operation, refractive errors of 8-10 in myopia and above 5 in hyperopia can be intervened with Phakic intraocular lens.

Phakic Intraocular Lens Application

With Este with Care, you can apply for Phakic Intraocular Lens treatment in the treatment of astigmatism, myopia and hyperopia.

Our doctors, who specialize in laser and intraocular lenses, perform your surgery.

Your suitability for laser surgery and which type of laser to choose are determined after a detailed examination by your physician.

Steps of Intraocular Lens Placement

• The patient is put to sleep with general anesthesia. Therefore, there is no feeling of pain during the procedure.
• Three small incisions are made in the cornea. Through the tunnel-shaped incision, the phakic intraocular lens is placed into the eye with the help of an apparatus.
• The intraocular lens is placed in front of or behind the iris. During the procedure, no intervention is made to the natural lens of the eye.
• An antibiotic drug is dripped into the eye. The process is terminated.

The operation takes an average of 15 minutes for one eye. takes. Preferably, both eyes are operated on different days. But it can also be done on the same day.

After Intraocular Lens Surgery

Protective glasses are used on the day of surgery. There is no need to stay in the hospital after the surgery. If no edema occurs in the cornea, normal vision will be achieved the next day. Antibiotic, cortisone eye drops and tear drops will be used in line with your doctor’s recommendations.

Routine checks are planned as your doctor deems appropriate after the surgery.

Possible Problems After Intraocular Lens Surgery

If the number remains, it can be reset with the Excimer Laser if there are no contraindications.

Edema in the cornea: Damage to the innermost layer of the cornea may occur during surgery. It will usually pass with drops.

Glaucoma: It is a condition that can be seen after intraocular surgeries. It causes eye pain. It will usually pass with drops. Very rarely it may require a second intervention.

Cataract: It can develop if there is a contact with the natural lens during surgery. Rarely, it may require cataract surgery.

Eye infection: Serious infections can be seen after intraocular surgeries, albeit very rarely. It is an important condition and requires early intervention.

Bleeding: There may be bleeding in the vessels of the iris tissue. It can usually be easily controlled.

Tear in the retina: It is a rare condition that can be seen after intraocular surgeries. It should be intervened by a retina specialist.

In case of age-related cataract development in a patient with a phakic intraocular lens implanted, a phakic intraocular lens is removed and cataract surgery is performed. The pre-calculated artificial intraocular lens is placed inside the lens capsule. Phakic intraocular lens surgery does not prevent future eye surgeries.
