What To Do or Not After Hair Transplant

At Este With Care, we give detailed directions to our hair transplant patients for home care before they leave our clinic.

  • If you use a firm and small pillow would be better for you. The transplanted hair follicles mustn’t touch the quilt, bedside or pillow, and mustn’t get damage when going to bed. A recliner is very useful as a makeshift bed. In addition, open front clothes such as zippered sweaters, cardigans and shirts should be preferred in the first week after hair transplantation. Tight clothing such as turtlenecks, sweaters and t-shirts should not be passed through the head hole. The hair transplant area may be damaged. In other words, in the first week after Hair Transplantation, there shouldn’t be any contact with the transplantation area. Every possible contact could bring damage to the transplanted hair follicle, and we could lose that hair follicle.
  • In the first week after hair transplantation, all kinds of hairdressing services, solarium, swimming, sauna, Turkish bath and sports activities are prohibited. They may increase the risk of infection and damage hair follicles.
  • Patients should act responsibly against the cold and the direct effects of the flu.
  • The area where Hair Transplantation is done, may not come into contact with water. And don’t washed during the first two days after Hair Transplantation. The first washing has to be done after 24 hours after the operation. This will be done by your your doctor. After washing the hair transplantation area, the hair must be blow-dried. A towel should absolutely not be used.
  • During the first week after Hair Transplantation, drinking alcohol is forbidden. Smoking is forbidden on the day after the operation. Reducing tobacco use will be better for you.
  • Do expect some hair to fall out from the transplanted areas about 2 to 4 weeks after your procedure. This is entirely normal and part of the natural hair growth cycle. This doesn’t mean that the hair follicles are damaged. Your hair will regrow within about three months.
  • Don’t be alarmed if you experience swelling, especially on 3-4 days after the hair transplant.
  • Don’t try to prevent scabs from forming on your scalp. The formation of scabs is a very natural result and part of the natural healing process. You need to let the scabs on your head form freely until they go away on their own.
  • Don’t wear any hats for the first three days. The scabs need about three days to solidify. During this time, to avoid anything touch to your head is the best.
  • It’s very common for hair transplant patients to use vacation time for their recovery, and it’s okay to spend that time at the beach or outside, as long as you don’t run any risk of sunburn. You also shouldn’t go scuba diving.
  • Don’t engage in any activities that might cause you to sweat heavily
  • If you need to travel after the operation, you can use a inflatable pillow. This will prevent the hair follicles of getting damage.
